The hall in the gristmill is available for meetings and special events. The hall accommodates 80 people and provides a unique and pleasant setting for seminars, business meetings, birthday and retirement celebrations, baby and bridal showers, weddings and receptions and other events. Kitchen facilities for your catering are included.

The grove and grounds may also be rented.

Which Greenbank Mill facilities are available for event rentals?

Our main mill building contains a rental hall, approximately 32 feet by 24 feet. This historic location is full of charm, with hardwood floors, large wood ceiling beams, and an interior window onto the Oliver Evans grist milling system.


Our grove is a flat, natural clearing below the main parking lot, surrounded by trees, the iconic Wilmington-Western railway, and the beautiful Red Clay Creek.

 

 

What is included in my Greenbank Mill rental?

The main mill building provides: two stocked handicap-accessible restrooms; a kitchen including a refrigerator/freezer, a microwave, a double-sink, multiple outlets, and 24 feet of counter space; a coat rack with hangers; trash and recycling bins; adjustable track and sconce lighting; some cleaning supplies; and chairs/tables for approximately 80 guests.


The main parking lot at the mill building includes approximate 10 parking spots, and is recommended for loading/unloading and handicapped/limited-mobility guests. With prior notification, this lot may be used for an outdoor event setting; for tented events, we have a rental company exclusive for our site.


The auxiliary gravel parking lot is located just east of the site, holds ~50 vehicles, and provides a scenic walk across the Red Clay Creek to access the site.


For an additional fee, the grove is provided for use during your event. It is mowed regularly but is otherwise left in its natural state. You will not be refunded if your use of the grove is restricted due to weather.

 

During your rental time, we provide an Event Supervisor to assist you with the management of your event and the safety and security of your guests.

 

 

What services does Greenbank Mill provide?

Greenbank Mill provides a DYI setting for your special occasion. We do not provide event planning, wedding coordination, catering, decorating, or cleaning services for your event. The facility must be left in the condition it is found.

What are my responsibilities as a renter at Greenbank Mill?

Please carefully read the Rental Policy, attached to the Rental Contract. This outlines all restrictions and obligations of our renters, and will be enforced by the Event Supervisor during your event.

The facility must be left in the condition it is found, meaning that all cleaning must be done by you/your guests, including but not limited to: sweep all floors, wet mop spills and bathroom floors; wipe counter tops and clean sink, if kitchen is used; empty refrigerator of all items brought in, including ice; wipe tables and return tables and chairs to their storage areas; ensure all trash is picked up in any areas used outside; remove all tape and decorations, including balloons; remove trash and recycling to dumpster in parking lot. The cleaning must be done within the time frame listed on your contract.


As a non-profit historic facility, we require the following: the table display of our materials must be left as-is during your event; no thumb tacks, staples, nails, strong tape or similar materials may be used; no smoking, smoke machines, or candles (except small cake candles, or other pre-approved candle usage).

 

Due to the presence of residential tenants and livestock, music and noise must be kept at a reasonable level. Sunday through Thursday night, music must be quieted by 11 pm, and on Friday and Saturday nights, the music must be quieted by 12am-midnight.  Amplified music is only allowed outside at a low level.

 

 

What time periods does Greenbank Mill rent the facilities?

Rentals are available 7 days per week. The minimum rental time block is 8 hours. Sunday-Thursday rentals must end by 11pm; Friday and Saturday by 12pm

Keep in mind that your rental time starts when the doors are unlocked for you for your setup, and ends when you have finished your cleaning of the facility. We recommend a minimum of 3 hours set up for weddings and 1 hour for other events, with a minimum of 1-2 hours for cleanup. You may request additional hours the evening prior to your event, for additional setup time; however, this is subject to availability, and we do not provide security for any items left outside. Tents may not remain outside overnight, but our exclusive tent rental company is happy to set up and break down your tent on the day of your rental.

 

 

Can I visit Greenbank Mill to determine if it will work for my event?

Yes! Please make an appointment so that staff will be available to show you the interior space. We recommend you take plenty of pictures and/or video during your visit, so you can share these with those helping you plan your event.

 

How can I reserve my date?

Your requested date is only reserved once your minimum $250 deposit has been received with your signed contract. We do not hold dates for anyone. Contracts and deposits may be sent by mail, or delivered by appointment.

 

How can I make payments for my rental?
Payments are accepted by cash, check, or credit card:

Cash: Accepted during appointments.  Required if final payment is being made within 10 days of the event.

Check: May be mailed or provided during an appointment.
Not accepted within 10 days of the event.

Credit Card: Accepted by phone or during an appointment. A $10 service fee is charged for any amount under $300; a $15 service fee is charged for $300 and over.

 

We cannot guarantee that staff will be available if you are delivering funds outside of an appointment window.

 

Do I get a refund if I cancel?

You may cancel your contract. If you cancel more than two weeks in advance, a $250 cancellation fee will be charged. If you cancel within two weeks of the event, the rental fee already paid shall be forfeited. In case of cancellation by Greenbank Mill & Philips Farm, all monies shall be refunded. No refunds are provided if your use of the rented grove is restricted due to weather.

 

When is my refundable deposit returned to me?

The refundable deposit will be returned by check within 30 days of your event, provided that it is not reduced due to damages or unfulfilled contractual obligations.

 

May I see the facilities before making a decision?

Of course. As a small living history museum, we have limited staffing times for opening the facilities to visitors.
